Re: Does God exist?

I suppose that depends on how you define "God". I have the inkling suspicion that the concept people refer to by the word "God" is probably some ill-defined amalgamation of concepts that don't make sense until you unpack and separate them.

Re: Daily Practices?

I've started for the past week, getting up at 4:45 aand doing the Miracle Morning practice by Hal Elrod. Noticeable difference already. It's an hour of six different high impact practices. Silence, Affirmations, Visualization, Exercise, Reading, Scribing. Great stuff. Never been a morning person bef...

Re: POTUS 2016

So, apparently, the reason he came out with it the way he did was because he found out at the beginning of Oct that there were emails on the computer, contrary to signed statement from Uma. So he told his second in command to get a warrant and sort through them. His second's wife received a "campaig...

Re: POTUS 2016

Government officials are not allowed; not legally allowed to use their office to sway or influence an election. If there is really is some damaging emails in there, he should state them immediately or withdraw this investigation. Otherwise he risks violating the law, if he has not already done so. ...

Re: the goal of Taoism

Taoism does not have quite the same view of emptiness as Buddhism and does not have the same view of non-self (at least my Taoist teachers did not). The view is essentially substantialist with humans and living beings having a true essence. This true essence can be developed, basically, to attain t...

But how are they related to News, Current Events and Politics or Lounge? Maybe because they are events that are about to be current. I'm just glad it's science conference and not SJW conference or some other such nonsense. Edit: Actually, looking at the topics, it seems to be a conference about Int...

Re: Food and its dangers

I know one of the Taoist qigong arts aims to completely remove the physical need for food. The thought is that only one who has not diluted the heaven energy with earth energy can become an immortal or one with the Tao.

Yeah, that would be weird. But most people don't mind a weird question every once in a while.

Re: Is Buddhism a Religion?

You clearly mentioned that you can't prove he is not an arahant, so there is no need to make arguments. I just put his book for the guys who seek pristine dhamma.you guys take his arahanship to the stage. I have 100% confident in this with many years of experiance of his meditation teachings , dham...

Re: Is Buddhism a Religion?

so we have no doubt about his attainment. without knowing anything you guys just say he is not an Arahant. Im sure he can prove his arahantship if anyone going meet him to and challenge. how can you prove he is not and Arahant. I can't "prove" he isn't an Arahant, just as he can't prove he is. That...

Re: Is Buddhism a Religion?

I've never met him, but I can tell by looking at his picture he is not. An easy benchmark is HHDL, who has said he is not enlightened. Looking at his picture, even at whatever stage he is, one can feel his energy field and get a sense of his heart. A person like this self proclaimed Arahant should a...

Re: My answer to the Fermi paradox

Would you agree that by and large Westerners equate being Dhammic with being weak and submissive? That being Dhammic means crawling into a corner and reading suttas and never having chutzpah of any sort (again I will reiterate my interactions are limited to Western Theravadins). It is partly due to...

Re: My answer to the Fermi paradox

Most often they mistake being weak and submissive as doing the right thing. It is not their fault. The Western teachers of Buddhism gave them the wrong idea. Such as they are often shocked to hear that Ajahn Maha Boowa had a fierce temper. But why they ask .. he was said to be an arahant .. does an...

It's not a very effective form of advertising to begin with. Personal endorsements are far more likely to cause the intended action.

Mr. Goenka does the chanting in a retreat environment to create a meditative atmosphere full of good vibrations for the students to meditate in. I've never tried chanting so I cant speak to this. I have listened to some Tibetin chanting cd's and find them relaxing. Oh, a skilled user can shift the ...

Re: My answer to the Fermi paradox

Actually, and this is coming from someone who has read a lot of biographies, most successful people had some type of meditative or contemplative practice. For Einstein, he used extensive visualization to solve problems and come up with his theories. As did Tesla, and most other inventors. Edison use...
