General Buddhist forum for all forms of Buddhism

I am aware there is a general Dharma forum which includes all religions. But my humble suggestion is that in addition to what we have already to have a forum within Dharma Paths, encircling the the Buddhist schools (Theravada, Mahayana, Vajrayana & Dzogchen). So that specific discussions can happen ...

Tantric Hinduism

I am a Vajrayana Buddhist and I am interested in knowing about the tantric aspect of Hinduism. This is to know about the purpose of Tantric Hinduism, what its expected outcomes are, what its scriptures are etc.

Would be great to hear from anyone who has answers.

Re: Misconception of Selfishness

Gotcha. I've been reading The Teachings of Ajahn Chah and in the English translation it sometimes uses word 'cultivator' and I was substituting the word 'meditator' for that word. But now you've clarified that its cultivation with respect to the Three-Fold Trainings so thank you. For the record, I a...

Preparation for Ordination in Theravada

I am making this thread more on behalf of an online group and its potential members who would be Theravada Buddhists rather than myself. The questions is how to best prepare as a lay Buddhist in one’s practice prior to ordaining in the Theravada school of Buddhism? It is about collecting all types o...

A separate forum for inter-school/inter-sect discussion within Buddhism

There are forums for open discussion of different schools within Buddhism as well as other non-Buddhist Dharmic religions.

How about lets have an additional forum within Dharma Paths for 'Buddhism' where interschool/intersect discussion can take place between schools and sects within Buddhism.

Misconception of Selfishness

Most of the practice explained in forms of Buddhism will only work if we spend sometime by ourselves where we dedicate our time to nothing but the practice. Unfortunately this is misunderstood by some as being selfish. It is a mistaken yet popular view among certain Mahayana Buddhists that what Ther...

Re: A Critique of Engaged Buddhism

Just to make myself clear as to where I stand I feel 'Engaged Buddhism' can be like a double-edged sword. Qualities of mindfulness, loving-kindness and being non-judgemental are important factors when practising engaged aspects related to Buddhist principles. In this day and age where people's minds...

Re: Engineered form of Buddhism

Ah that is interesting. Usually people assume that Chan is a different form of Zen/Seon/Thien (noticing that Chan is the likely precusror of all these latter schools). But I personally was not aware of this till you told me. Its just that there are various different practices seemed to be beneficial...

Engineered form of Buddhism

This is a hypothetical question. Lets say that important monastics, ordained members and scholars of all (most) traditional lineages of Theravada, Mahayana and Vajrayana met in the form of a council and decided to engineer a form of Buddhism by combining all the important practices and teachings of ...

A Critique of Engaged Buddhism

Before I begin let me clear that ‘Engaged Buddhism’ is not a form (sect/school) of Buddhism but it is a behavioral aspect of Buddhism. Buddhism is a teaching as well as a practice which helps humans to get closer to Enlightenment to liberate them from suffering in Samsara. Buddhism as a religion has...
