Charity is Judeo-Christian and anti-Buddhist

Reminder that's especially relevant for the Christmas season: The Buddha said you should only donate to worthy, proven monks (hint: if they have 1 post on any Buddhist forum, they fail this test) or such members of your sangha. If someone asks you to donate to a charity and the people who would be r...

"In crossing the river [from Saṃsāra to enlightenment] (...) crocodiles are a designation for women." Try meditating next time you have hiccups

I discovered that being mindful of your lungs or body can stop hiccups. You'll notice some involuntary movement in your lungs/diaphragm that would seem to precede a hiccup. Just observe that sensation. It will not evolve into a hiccup now that you're focused on it. It works. The hiccups go away.

Winter 2016 issue of Tricycle magazine for free

Because I'm disgusted with the idea of Tricycle charging subscription fees AND putting ads in their magazines, I scanned the entire issue and am posting it here to download: https://mega.nz/#!MVtEmRaR!7Ge9iLIXnxyt78oLCkbc0FhtbR78SD6LWRVfGeyMZxU To the owner of this site: You need not worry about lia...

It's more ethical to use adblockers than not

There has been a lot of debate on the ethics of using adblocking software. Almost all websites and mobile apps primarily make their money through advertisements. The conventional argument is that by blocking the ads, you are stealing potential profit from the business and that this is tantamount to ...

Re: My answer to the Fermi paradox

^^^ Einstein probably didn't meditate; if he did, it wouldn't have made a difference in his work, neither beneficial nor negative. That's not the point of meditation. I was saying that an advanced species would probably discover the dhamma before ever building space crafts--leading most of them into...

Re: Sub forum for atheism

Atheism has no place in the Dhamma discussions, neither old atheism nor new atheism. There are plenty of other places on the internet to discuss the retarded atheism/"I Believe I'm A Special Snowflake" religion.

Re: Are plants beings?

Plants are, by all definitions of the word, alive. Let's avoid assuming they are in the same class as dirt just because they grow in it. They have some of the metabolic processes and even some enzymes with higher order animals. Humans share a common ancestor with plants. What is crazier is that some...

My answer to the Fermi paradox

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fermi_paradox <-- Cliffs: The universe is big but we have not seen any alien visitors, which is a paradox. After a certain large amount of evolution, civilizations similar to (but not identical to) ours build machines to do all their labor with most of the population no...

Re: Which diet do you follow?

Lacto-ovo vegetarianism might be the balanced, middle way here. Practically speaking, you don't have to supplement at all if you eat dairy or eggs. For optimal health as a vegan, you need to take a multivitamin everyday (but vitamins in this day and age are so cheap and ubiquitous that this is a moo...
