This guy says he saw an image of the Buddha while on DMT

Many other people say the same thing, that they saw a sitting full lotus Buddha while on DMT.

Is this really a coincidence?

Interesting, I see that Joe Rogan is an agnostic, raised Catholic but now appears to have some interest in Dharma due to his use of psychedelic hallucinogens.

Is DMT the same thing as Ayahuasca? Or is it that Ayahuasca contains DMT?

Ayahuasca has DMT in it and is ingested by drinking it instead of smoking it. Otherwise it's the same thing.

No one in the West would care about Buddhism if it weren't for psychedelics. Not saying every Western Buddhist does psychedelics of course, but you can't deny the connection between the initial Western introduction to Buddhism (ca. 1940s-1960s) and the emergence of drugs like DMT, LSD, etc. This is like the elephant in the room that no one on these forums ever acknowledges.

Without psychedelics, Buddhism would have died off in Asia as a forgotten ancient tradition.

There were some Western born (convert) Buddhists prior to the beat generation of 1940s - 1960s:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/U_Dhammaloka (1856-1914) born in Ireland
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caroline_Rhys_Davids (1857-1942) born in England
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_Rhys_Davids (1843-1922) born in England

And certainly some other, less famous convert Buddhists existed, but admittedly Buddhism in the West took off more around the time of the beat generation and possibly psychedelics may have played a role.

Ironically, however, the 5th precept of Buddhism advises:
the precept to refrain from intoxicating drinks and drugs which lead to carelessness.
