Roshi Joan Halifax & her Nomad Clinic in Nepal

Post by WaterDragon » Sun Jul 10, 2016 4:51 am

Joan Halifax is a remarkable woman. In her 70's now, she travels annually into the mountains of Nepal and Mustang to lead a group of volunteers that takes medicines and medical professionals to remote villages that have no medical service of their own. Here are links to a short interview with her about the project, and a longer feature article in the New Yorker, by a journalist who made the trip with her, and reports from the trail.

I find this very inspiring. She says that when she first traveled to Nepal and realized that there were segments of the population that had no recourse to doctors, compassion moved her to organize the mobile Nomad Clinic from among her clinician colleagues. They're often hosted by monasteries, who volunteer a hall to be turned into a temporary clinic.
