To my mind probably the best biography of Upasika Blavatsky is now in e-book form:

Child Helena learns a lesson from her bad temper:
... on one occasion, in a fit of temper at her nurse, a faithful old
serf who had been brought up in the family, she struck her a blow
on the face. This coming to her grandmother's knowledge, the child
was summoned, questioned, and confessed her fault. The grandmother
at once had the castle bell rung to call all the servants of the
household, of whom there were scores, and when they were assembled
in the great hall, she told her granddaughter that she had
acted as no lady should, in unjustly striking a helpless serf who
would not dare defend herself; and she ordered her to beg her pardon
and kiss her hand in token of sincerity.

The child at first, crimson with shame, was disposed to rebel; but
the old lady told her that if she did not instantly obey, she would
send her from her house in disgrace. She added that no real noble
lady would refuse to make amends for a wrong to a servant, especially
one who by a lifetime of faithful service had earned the confidence
and love of her superiors.

Naturally generous and kind-hearted towards the people of the
lower classes, the impetuous child burst into tears, kneeled before
the old nurse, kissed her hand, and asked to be forgiven. Needless to
say that she was thenceforth fairly worshipped by the retainers of
the family. She told me [Olcott] that lesson was worth everything to her, and
had taught her the principle of doing justice to those whose social
rank made them incapable of compelling aggressors to do rightly towards them.

The Secret Doctrine in two large volumes was, and still is, off putting to many, and for many reasons. HPB recognized that problem, so she suggested which parts of it to study and ponder on first. This booklet gives her suggestions along with those excepts from the SD she mentioned:

H. P. Blavatsky the Mystery

Post by Nicholas » Fri Nov 08, 2019 10:06 pm

This book by G. de Purucker is out of print, but some used copies may be out there. Here are the first six chapters, lightly edited from The Theosophical Path issues in 1929-30:

There is about H. P. Blavatsky a certain grandeur that impels us towards search for the inner meaning of things and an effort to awaken the deepest part of our nature where all truth abides for us to discover. We have not identified ourselves with her work for our own salvation's sake; our aim is at a mark more unusual: to make mankind happy glimpsing the wonderful hope that we cherish, glimpsing the wonderful truths; to unfold in our lives a divine influence to take out into the world and to give to humanity, that the great heart of Helena Petrovna Blavatsky may be understood; and that the doors of the temple of peace and brotherhood may be opened wider and wider, that we may look out beyond and see other and other portals of other and other temples opening and opening to the utmost heights; and that many may see and come forward who now fall back and die, and must, until the light so shines through their lives that without speech or writing it will make itself known.

From chapter VI:
Oh! if men and women of the Occident could only get the conviction of the existence within themselves of the individual's living god as the fountain of his noblest parts, what a revolution in human thinking it would bring about! If they could only get the conviction, as they will in time most assuredly, that at the core of each one of them, at the heart of the heart of each one of them, is this glorious Sun of consciousness: then indeed not only would their lives change immensely for the better, not only would human relations be softened and refined, not only would the horrors attending our present civilization disappear as do the mists before the morning sunlight, but to the individual himself there would come inspiration, a sense of high human dignity, a sense of well-being, and of undeveloped power -- which both intuition and instinct would then tell them could only be developed through altruistic use. And could this idea become the conviction of their minds and the persuasion of their hearts, then indeed should we be members of a new race, enlightened with an all-embracing and high racial consciousness, and the Theosophical ideal of Universal Brotherhood would follow fully and in completeness as a necessary sequence. Our fellow human beings would act, think and dwell among each other almost as a race of incarnate gods -- for that in the name of holy Truth is just what we human beings are.

Once the realization comes home to him that all Nature is a unity, and that he himself forms but one small wheel in the cosmic macrocosm, directed and inspired by a unifying spiritual force, man finds his freedom, sees his so-called 'struggle' to be what it is, his own illusion, and attains peace and liberation from the bonds of desire arising out of the thralldom of the personal self to the desires which that personal self gives birth to.

One of the great virtues of the teachings which H. P. Blavatsky brought anew to the western world lies in the sentences which immediately precede, for she showed to Occidentals the pathway out of this stifling morass of personality into the golden sunlight of spiritual freedom. In doing so she merely put in philosophic and religious form the teachings of the Sages of all the ages, that true and real freedom lies in abandoning the thraldom of selfish personal desires, and in realizing one's absolute fundamental oneness with the great motivating and causal impulses of Universal Nature which thrill through us, and really make us what we are.
