Great Compassion Mantra

Post by Nicholas » Sat Aug 27, 2016 10:45 pm

Mantras are much used in Mahayana, this is one of the most popular and powerful. Master Hsuan Hua composed verses on each of the 84 lines of the mantra. Recitation of and pondering on each (or any) line, whether Master Hua's verse or the mantra, is a good method of cultivation.

Click on any one line of mantra and Master Hua's verse will appear - like this on line one:

May all seek, find and follow the Path of selflessness.

This is one of my favorites. It's on my chanting playlists right after Imee O (sp) singing Heart Sutra in Sanskrit. The last one I do on the way to work.
There is no Emotion, there is Peace;
There is no Ignorance, there is Knowledge;
There is no Passion, there is Serenity;
There is no Death, there is the Force.

I was having a bad dream and I started reciting Great Compassion mantra while in the dream. Instantly, I was transported into a room with divine energy and onto the table of a healer who was healing my wounds from the dream. He said something like "You were able to come to me because you were reciting the mantra of Great Compassion."

I heard a similar story of a person who was being chased by a demon in a dream. He saw a stairway and ran up it with the demon close behind. The person chanted OM MANI PADME HUM a little and from the top of the stairs a brilliant light ray beamed down thru and past him. The demon froze in place and then ran away.
May all seek, find and follow the Path of selflessness.
